"Connexum" Artist Talk

Writer: Benjamin FernandezBenjamin Fernandez

On Wednesday, February 5, I was deeply and profoundly honored to facilitate the artist talk as part of the opening of Connexum: Caldwell University Kappa Pi 2025 Alumni & Student Exhibiton, the group exhibition at the Mueller Gallery on campus that I curated and organized. I began by introducing the show; briefly explaining the history of Kappa Pi, the international art Honors society; and presenting each of the twelve exhibiting artists (which included myself). I then proceeded with the talk itself, in which I asked each of the five artists who participated a few questions regarding what inspired them to pursue art, what motivated them to create the piece(s) they submitted, and how they were encouraged to join Kappa Pi. I truly appreciated the active involvement and valuable insights of every artist who spoke that evening, and the same could be said about those from the audience who provided us with additional thoughtful questions.

With the exhibition now concluded as of the afternoon of Saturday, March 1, I am again very thankful that we all could be a part of this incredible culmination of several months of preparation and collaboration. It was truly a distinct privilege to not only show my work alongside all of yours, but also facilitate this inaugural Kappa Pi showcase and establish our chapter’s active presence on campus. Above all, our special bond—forged by our shared commitment to the Kappa Pi motto: “art colors life and enriches living”—will surely inspire us to further pursue our own creative and professional paths while strengthening our connection as a collective of emerging contemporary artists. What an amazing and rewarding experience for us all! 🗣️🖼️🙌🏻
